Toy

Toy” is an exhibition originated from a reflection on “Play and Hand-made Toy”, where over twenty artists from Hong Kong and Taiwan solidify their attitude and hope towards life with their hands.

Carrying the warmth in the hearts of the creators, the artworks interact with the spectators and connect everyone with objects, events and other people. It is an exchange that invites us to be more of our individual self and participate in an activity of sense and emotion.

From the curator…

This exhibition was conceived during a chance encounter in Taipei. It was more than a year ago, at the middle of summer in 2015.

During a visit to teacher An-Chi and teacher I-Ting’s studio, we started chatting and found out that we share many common interests, and are passionate in creating with our hands. We believe play-things are a reflection of our daily lives, and how we can use objects to tell stories. Although we speak different languages, we found the perfect common language – Toy.

I am not very good with words, and indeed, no words can be as effective as your presence at the exhibition, to feel the energy of the pieces, and to listen to the stories of the artists have to tell.

On behalf of the Academy of Visual Arts, I wish this exhibition a great success. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped to bring these fragments of ideas together, and make them complete.

Thank you Hong Kong Baptist University, for sponsorship of the venue.

Thank you James Leung, for all graphic design for the show, including logo and printed matters.

Thank you all the participating artists from Taiwan and Hong Kong, for the great professionalism.

Thank you teacher An-Chi and teacher I-Ting, for co-curating the exhibition with me, and come all the way here from Taiwan for the opening. It is our great honour.
